Android VPN Asks for Permissions After Months Away? Check Unused-App Settings

A long-unused app requesting permission again does not by itself prove an account or server problem. Check unused-app management and identify the exact permission being requested.

Permission resets differ from screen-off disconnections

Android documents runtime-permission resets and background restrictions under app hibernation, depending on OS and target versions. This does not establish identical treatment of Yunbao on every phone, nor that a runtime-permission reset necessarily removes VPN connection approval.

Review the actual prompts without clearing app data

  1. Record device, OS, app version and the exact prompt with account details redacted.
  2. Open system app information and look for unused-app, pause-activity or remove-permissions controls; manufacturer names differ.
  3. Open the app normally and review each permission and its purpose, restoring only what the current function requires.
  4. If an OS VPN connection approval appears, verify the requesting app separately; this is not the same as a camera or notification permission.
  5. Compare one connection on the same network and route. Keep appropriate system protections, and report recurring prompts despite daily use with their time and wording.

Reopening does not mean every permission is restored

Leaving hibernation does not automatically regrant all runtime permissions. Do not experiment by uninstalling, clearing data or disabling system security. Immediate screen-off disconnections or paused background work need the separate battery and Data Saver checks.
