Understand the reset’s impact
Microsoft places network reset last: it removes adapters and their settings, then reinstalls adapters with defaults after restart. VPN software and virtual switches may need reconfiguration, so this is broader than clearing a cache.
Prepare before deciding to proceed
- Record error, Windows version and scope; compare other sites and devices first.
- Securely preserve needed Wi-Fi, static IP, DNS, proxy and virtual-network settings; consult IT for work networks and mask secrets.
- Keep official installer sources and account-recovery access available without relying on the current VPN.
- Remote desktop may disconnect. Arrange local or console recovery; do not reset remotely without a recovery path.
- If required, find Network reset under Advanced network settings on Windows 11 or Status on Windows 10. Read the confirmation, save work and allow restart without repeated resets.
- After restart verify basic networking, then restore required VPN and virtual networking through official instructions. Review network profile rather than marking a public network private merely for discovery.
Keep a record after recovery
Recovery after reset does not identify the original cause or fix every server or route issue. Record changes and results; no automatic adapter repair feature in Yunbao is claimed.
