Record the error instead of continuing
Expired certificates, name mismatches and timeouts are different failures. Record the error code, domain and device time. Do not bypass certificate warnings to sign in or pay. A connected VPN does not authenticate a website.
Check the clock, then narrow the scope
For clock-ahead or clock-behind errors, check date, time zone and clock synchronization. Compare two known HTTPS sites. A single failure may require the site owner; several failures warrant checking browser version, portal authentication and managed proxy configuration.
Keep protections and request help
Do not install root certificates from strangers or disable security software just to browse. Administrators should handle certificates for managed HTTPS inspection. On personal devices, update the OS and browser, then retest. Hide account, verification and payment details in reports.
