One iPhone App Fails on Mobile Data: Check Cellular Access

When one app works on Wi-Fi but fails on mobile data, review that app cellular permission first. Separate a single-app failure from a device-wide outage before changing routes or unrelated settings.

Inspect the app-specific control

Apple provides per-app data controls under Cellular or Mobile Data settings. An app with cellular data disabled uses Wi-Fi for data. Inspect the affected app and review the Yunbao entry where relevant.

Run a bounded comparison

  1. Note the app, active data SIM and failure time without sharing passwords or verification codes.
  2. Find its cellular-data control and check whether it is disabled; enable it only when needed and permitted.
  3. Keep the data connection and VPN route fixed, retry the original action and compare another familiar app.
  4. If the permission change restores access, record that result. If all apps fail, investigate the device connection rather than assuming one-app permissions.
  5. Retain your desired data limits afterwards; a VPN does not replace a mobile data plan.

Report the scope

Reporting that app A fails on mobile data while B works and both work on Wi-Fi is more useful than saying the VPN fails. Do not reset every network or delete all VPN profiles for one app failure; preserve the reproducible conditions first.
