Troubleshooting steps

  1. Connect to the VPN and ask your administrator for the full internal hostname. Use nslookup to query the short name and then the full name with a trailing dot.
  2. If only the full name resolves, use ipconfig /all to inspect the VPN adapter’s connection-specific DNS suffix and the DNS suffix search list. Share the results with your administrator.

How to choose the next step

If both lookups fail, record the DNS server and the errors. If both succeed but the app still fails, check the target port and application service.
